DepEd: Be sure your school is accredited

Education Secretary Armin Luistro

Barely a week before classes begin, the Department of Education reminded parents and students to make sure they were not enrolling in a private school that was not accredited by the government.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro ordered all regional offices to publicly display a list of private schools with DepEd accreditation within their areas.

The DepEd also has a master list of legitimate private schools posted on its website, www.deped.gov.ph.

Since beginning operations on Monday, the DepEd鈥檚 Oplan Balik Eskwela Action Center at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City has received five call-in complaints about private schools operating without permits.

鈥淭he list of private schools with permits to operate, recognition or accreditation should be posted in the regional offices and division offices, municipal halls and other conspicuous places,鈥 said Luistro.

鈥淲e encourage parents to check whether the private school where they intend to enroll their children has the required permits so the department can easily track down unaccredited private schools and pursue immediate action,鈥 he added.

Luistro said enrolling in unaccredited schools would give students trouble as their certificates or diplomas may not be recognized upon enrollment in another school. Tarra Quismundo
