MANILA, Philippines 鈥撀燬enate Committee on Public Works Chairman Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. late Thursday night expressed his disgust and anger over the collapse of the two-month old Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge in Sta. Maria, Isabela.
The bridge, which was constructed over a seven-year period beginning in 2017, was opened to light vehicles just two months ago and collapsed early Thursday evening.
The bridge鈥檚 opening was delayed because a third-party audit found that it had a defective design unsuitable for its length and load.
鈥淣akakagalit. Heads must roll!Anuman ang dahilan, dapat ma-blacklist ang contractor niyan at parusahan,鈥 the lawmaker said. 鈥淎t dapat ayusin nila ang tulay without any additional cost to the people,鈥 he added.
Bong Revilla also wants the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to hold their engineers and personnel in charge of overseeing the project accountable.
鈥淗indi dapat nakakalusot sa DPWH ang ganito,鈥 he stressed. 鈥淧itong taon binuhusan ng pondo ng bayan, tapos dalawang buwan pa lang giba na,鈥 Bong Revilla lamented.
Meanwhile, the solon expressed concern for the public and those who may have been hurt by the incident. 鈥淚pinagdarasal natin na sana ay walang nasaktan o napinsala sa nangyari,鈥 he ended.
