Taal Volcano logs 8 earthquakes in past 24 hours
LUCENA CITY — At least eight volcanic earthquakes in Taal Volcano in Batangas province were detected over the last 24 hours.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) gave the report on Wednesday morning, March 5.
On Monday, March 4, one earthquake was also monitored over the volcano.
Phivolcs defines volcanic earthquakes as those ground movements “generated by magmatic processes or magma-related processes beneath or near an active volcano.”
In its latest update, the agency also recorded a “weak emission of 592 metric tons (MT) of sulfur dioxide (SO2) from Taal’s main crater, which rose 500 meters high before drifting in a west-southwest direction.”

Taal Volcano is still under alert level 1 (low level of volcanic unrest), Phivolcs said.
It reminded the public that Taal Volcano is still in an “abnormal condition.”
It said these developments “should not be interpreted to have ceased unrest nor ceased the threat of eruptive activity.”
