MANILA, Philippines — Two individuals were arrested after police discovered alleged shabu (crystal meth) valued at P2 million inside a vehicle in South Cotabato province, the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP HPG) said.

According to the HPG’s report on Wednesday, police stopped a sedan at its checkpoint along the National Highway in Barangay Dajay in Surallah town at around 1:45 p.m. on March 4.

The PNP’s highways unit initially flagged the vehicle for having heavily tinted windows and the driver for not wearing a seatbelt.

While inspecting the car, officers discovered five “jumbo” sachets containing what was believed to be 300 grams of shabu, prompting them to arrest the driver and the passenger of the vehicle.

In an interview with reporters in Camp Crame on Wednesday, HPG Spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang only identified the suspects as one male and one female, both 44-year-old residents of South Cotabato.

When asked about the relation of the two suspects, Malang said, “Sa impormasyong nakuha natin, parehas sila single. Pero sa relasyon between the two ay wala pang sinasagot para diyan.”

(Based on the information we got, they’re both single. But, we have yet to get answers as to the relation between the two.)

The suspects are now under the custody of the Surallah Municipal Police Station awaiting charges for violations of the Dangerous Drugs Act, the HPG added.
