MANILA, Philippines — Two men were arrested for illegally selling chainsaws in Butuan City, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) announced on Thursday.
According to the cybercrime unit’s report, police arrested “Allan,” 26, and “Robin,” 27, in Barangay Libertad, Butuan City, at noon last Saturday.
The entrapment operation was conducted against the two men upon the discovery of a Facebook Marketplace post selling chainsaws that cost between P3,000 and P7,500.
The PNP ACG said the seller lacked the permits required by Republic Act No. 9175 or the Chain Saw Act of 2002.
Authorities seized two heavy-duty chainsaws from the suspects.
The two arrested men face charges for violating the Chain Saw Act in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

“The online sale of chainsaws without a permit facilitates illegal deforestation. Adhering to regulations is vital to prevent environmental crimes and ensure accountability in digital marketplaces,” PNP ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said in a statement on Thursday.
