KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – An alert detective dog prevented the entry of suspected marijuana bricks after it sat on the parcel in a warehouse in Barangay Glammang, Gen. Santos City, on Wednesday afternoon.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-12) Regional Director Benjamin Recites III said narcotics agents conducted the interdiction operation in response to information about contraband from Manila that was to arrive at the warehouse.

The illegal drug-sniffing dog sat on a black parcel that contained suspected dried marijuana leaves, which were estimated to cost P360,000.

Recites said an intelligence report reached his office that a parcel from Quiapo, Manila was arriving and addressed to a certain Alias Jayar in General Santos City.

He lauded the dog for identifying the contraband seconds after the canine smelled the parcel.

Recites said the successful operation was conducted jointly with the Philippine Coast Guard Intelligence Group Southern Mindanao and the Polomolok municipal police station.

The investigation is still ongoing on the true identities of the sender and recipient of the parcel.
