MANILA, Philippines — Ninety percent of Edsa Busway station timers are finally operational, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said on Friday.

According to Dizon, this means commuters using the Edsa Busway can now expect a more efficient flow of buses.

“I am happy to report that 90 percent of the 45-second timers at Edsa Busway stops are now operational,” Dizon said in Filipino in a statement.

Dizon said he also ordered the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) to assign enforcers at each north and southbound station to ensure that bus drivers comply with the 45-second lay-by.

“Two enforcers are stationed at each bus stop — both northbound and southbound. They will  remind bus drivers that they should be on their way in 45 seconds so that we don’t get stuck at bus stops and cause traffic to build up,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Dizon committed that the Department of Transportation is already fast-tracking the repairs of remaining station timers to complete the immediate improvements of the entire signaling system, which would ensure smoother operations and enhanced safety for commuters.

He also intends to ensure that elevators at the stations will be constantly operational to ensure a PWD-friendly Edsa Busway.
