MANILA, Philippines — Authorities intercepted over P5.5 million worth of suspected crystal methamphetamine or shabu hidden in children’s toys at the Port of Clark in Angeles City, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Friday.

The BOC, in a statement, said information provided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) led the agency to intercept a shipment from Los Angeles, California, bound for Cagayan de Oro City which contained 816 grams of shabu.

BOC said the illegal drugs were found in vacuum-sealed pouches hidden in 10 toy items.

“Samples were taken and turned over to the PDEA for chemical analysis, which confirmed the substance as Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, classified as a dangerous drug under R.A. No. 9165, as amended,” the BOC said.

The BOC said a Warrant of Seizure and Detention will be issued against the shipment for violating Section 118(g), Section 119(d), and Section 1113 paragraphs (f), (i), and (l) of R.A. No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), in relation to R.A. No. 9165. (Sheba Barr, trainee)
