Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said it has recorded 11 confirmed election-related incidents (ERI) ahead of the May 12 midterm polls.

“Out of the 11 ay ‘yung nine diyan ay considered violent incidents involving shooting incidents, may mga stabbing incidents, at ‘yung two naman ay non-violent incidents, particularly doon sa Region 6 [Western Visayas], involves malicious mischief at grave threat,” PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said.

(Of the 11, nine were considered violent incidents that involved shooting and stabbing, while the other two, which took place in Region 6, were non-violent incidents involving malicious mischief and grave threat.)

Fajardo said two more incidents are being validated to determine if they are indeed ERIs.

A suspected ERI happens during the election period and the suspect or victim is either a candidate, a close relative of a candidate, a supporter, or a Commission on Elections official.

As for the election gun ban, Fajardo said the PNP has arrested 1,499 violators and confiscated 1,563 firearms as of March 6.

Of the seized weapons, 134 were confiscated at checkpoints while the rest were seized during various police operations.
