MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives has formally requested the Senate to set aside a work area in its building for the prosecution team and support group for the trial of impeached Vice President Sara Duterte.

Secretary General Reginald Velasco also asked Senate President Francis Escudero’s permission for an inspection of the assigned working area on Tuesday.

The House of Representatives impeached the Vice President on Feb. 5, 2025, with 215 lawmakers voting for the articles of impeachment, which include corruption, plotting to assassinate President Marcos, involvement in extrajudicial killings, and incitement to insurrection and public disorder.

There is no firm date yet on the start of the impeachment trial since Escudero argues that an impeachment court can only be convened when the Senate is in session.

Speaker Martin Romualdez, meanwhile, acknowledged in a letter the receipt of a Feb. 24 communication from Escudero about the verified impeachment complaint against Duterte and the chamber’s preparations for her trial.

Romualdez informed Escudero that his letter was forwarded to the House’s 11-man prosecution team for appropriate comment and action.
