MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems will bring cloudy skies and rain to different parts of the country on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa weather specialist Rhea Torres said the three weather systems are the shear line, easterlies, and the northeast monsoon or amihan.
“Sa kasalukuyan po, patuloy pa rin ang epekto ng shear line sa may bahagi po ng northern at Central Luzon,” Torres said in a morning weather update.
(Currently, the shear line continues to affect parts of northern and Central Luzon.)
She further explained that the shear line will cause cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms in the Cordillera Administrative Region, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Albay.
“May mga kumpol pa rin po ng kaulapan na namamataang nakakaapekto dito sa bahagi ng Luzon area. Dulot po yan ng epekto ng shear line o ang pagsasalubong ng mainit at malamig na hangin,” Torres added.
(Cloud clusters are still affecting parts of Luzon due to the shear line, which occurs when warm and cold air meet.)
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Ilocos Region due to the shear line.

The easterlies will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Caraga, the Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte, according to Torres.
“Sa southern portion naman po ng ating bansa, nakikita rin po natin itong mga kumpol na kaulapan na dulot po ng epekto ng easterlies o ‘yung mainit na hangin na nanggagaling sa Karagatang Pasipiko,” Torres said.
(In the southern part of the country, cloud clusters caused by the easterlies, or warm air from the Pacific Ocean, are also visible.)
She also noted that Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
“For the rest of the country naman po, magpapatuloy pa rin ang partly cloudy to cloudy conditions. Ibig sabihin po, inaasahan natin na generally fair weather conditions sa nalalabing bahagi ng ating bansa,” Torres said.
(For the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions will persist, meaning generally fair weather.)
“At kung may mga pag-ulan man ay panandalian lamang po ito ng mga thunderstorms na mas madalas nararanasan sa hapon o sa gabi,” she added.
(Any rain showers will be brief and are more likely to occur in the afternoon or evening.)
Pagasa is not monitoring any low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
In addition, the state weather bureau did not issue a gale warning for any of the country’s major seaboards on Monday.
However, Torres warned of moderate to rough seas in the coastal waters of Northern Luzon and its eastern seaboard, where wave heights may reach 2.1 to 3.1 meters.
