64 areas may reach ‘extreme caution’ heat index on Tuesday, March 11

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 64 areas across the country are predicted to reach the “extreme caution” heat index level on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Areas under this category will get heat indices ranging from 33 to 41°C, the state weather bureau said.

Pagasa’s monitoring stations in Masbate City, Zamboanga City, and Catarman, Northern Samar, forecast the highest heat index at 41°C in their respective areas.

According to Pagasa, heat index levels between 33°C and 41°C can cause heat cramps and exhaustion. Prolonged exposure to heat may also lead to heat stroke.
