MANILA, Philippines — The arrest of Rodrigo Duterte will “not result in peace” in the country, according to SAGIP party-list representative and Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) senatorial bet Rodante Marcoleta.
(The scenario I see is that the country’s politics will not be quiet. Our fellow countrymen who love the former president may also be saddened by this.)
Lalo lamang tayo gugulo bilang isang bansa,” Marcoleta added.
(If this happened and they did this, I know this wouldn’t result in peace. The country will only be thrown into more chaos.)
Duterte was arrested on Tuesday after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant against him for alleged crimes against humanity in connection with his bloody war on drugs.
LIVE UPDATES:
(This is a sad development. President Duterte is one of those exalted by Filipinos…His campaign against drug users was one of the ways a president can do what he thinks is best for the country.)
(If others think this is wrong, that’s on them. But the president is free to do it because he knows the goodness of his people.)
Marcoleta questioned the validity of the ICC warrant, claiming it was only a red notice from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
(If there’s no warrant of arrest and it’s only a red notice from the ICC or the Interpol, that’s rather questionable. The way they caught and arrested the former president of the country was dubious.)
