MANILA, Philippines — It’s not the infrastructure but time that the government is giving the commuting public when it supports the construction of facilities such as the SM North Edsa busway concourse in Quezon City, according to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.

The transport chief said the DOTr is focused on achieving travel time savings for each commuter by at least an hour or two, allowing them to rest and spend time with their families.

He also said workers should be able to reach their workplace quickly and also get back home quickly. He said many workers leave as home as early as 4 or 5 a.m., arrive at work at 8 a.m. or 9 a.m., then leave at 5 p.m., reaching home at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m.

The secretary assured commuters that the Edsa Busway will not halt operations even during the rehabilitation of said major thoroughfare. Dizon said discussions about the Edsa rehabilitation plans are still ongoing, the project would likely start not this month but in April instead.
