MANILA, Philippines — Three areas in the country are expected to experience the “danger” category of heat index on Saturday (March 15), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said the heat index will reach a dangerous level of 42°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Basco, Batanes; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Dagupan City has experienced the same level of heat index for five days in a row.

The heat index under the “danger” category, between 42°C to 51°C, can cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

Heat stroke is probable with continued exposure to the sun.

Meanwhile, “extreme caution” category will prevail in 61 areas.

Under this category, the heat index ranges from 33° to 41°.

Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible while continued activities can lead to heat stroke.
