MANILA, Philippines – The Solo Parents Partylist recently met with officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to discuss the pressing concerns and challenges of solo parents.
The partylist group discussed solo parent issues and concerns with DSWD Undersecretary Monina Josefina H. Romualdez, Undersecretary for Operations Group, and Director Edmon B. Monteverde, Director for Program Management Bureau.
The consultative meeting was organized as part of ongoing advocacy efforts by the Solo Parents Partylist, focused on the current state of solo parent rights and the gaps in support systems that it seeks to address.
During the meeting, the DSWD- Program Management Bureau mentioned that only 266,000 solo parents are registered in the current system, out of over 14 million estimate.
The Solo Parents Partylist reported that hundreds of solo parents, in their official social media account (), have voiced out that they are feeling overlooked by government programs that should cater to their unique needs.
In response to these issues, the Solo Parents Partylist laid out a set of proposals aimed at addressing the current struggles of solo parents across the country.
