Wet, cloudy Thursday to prevail due to shear line, northeast monsoon

MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rains will prevail on Thursday due to the effects of the shear line and the northeast monsoon or amihan, according to the state weather bureau.
In a Thursday weathercast, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Rhea Torres noted that the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to Visayas, Caraga, Sorsogon, and Masbate.
“‘Yung shear line naman, o ‘yung pagsasalubong ng malamig at mainit na hangin ay patuloy pa rin ang epekto, lalong-lalo na dito po sa may eastern sections ng Visayas,” she emphasized.
(The shear line, or the meeting of cold and warm air, continues to affect the eastern sections of Visayas.)
Torres added that the northeast monsoon will cause cloudy skies with rains in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of Bicol Region.
“Kaya doble ingat po sa ating mga kababayan dahil posible po yung mga pagbaha o pagguho ng lupa dahil yung mga pag-ulan po na ito ay posible pong tumagal hanggang sa darating na weekend,” the state weather specialist explained.

She likewise said that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy conditions also due to the northeast monsoon.
“Kung may mga pag-ulan man ay mga panandalian lamang po ito na pagbuhos ng ulan,” Torres said.
Isolated thunderstorms are also possible for the rest of the country, she added.
(If there will be rains, they will be brief and temporary.)
The state weather bureau also predicted the following temperature ranges in major cities on Thursday:
- Metro Manila: 23 to 32 degrees Celsius (°C)
- Baguio City: 15 to 24°C
- Laoag City: 23 to 31°C
- Tuguegarao: 22 to 29°C
- Legazpi City: 25 to 29°C
- Tagaytay City: 21 to 29°C
- Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 33°C
- Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 33°C
- Cebu City: 26 to 30°C
- Iloilo City: 25 to 31°C
- Tacloban City: 25 to 30°C
- Cagayan De Oro City: 25 to 31°C
- Zamboanga City: 25 to 33°C
- Davao City: 25 to 33°C
A gale warning was also issued by Pagasa over the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas and the western seaboard of Northern Luzon due to the northeast monsoon.
