MANILA, Philippines — Puerto Princesa City in Palawan is forecast to experience the highest heat index at 42 degrees Celsius (°C) on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

According to the state weather bureau, a heat index of 42°C to 51°C is categorized under the “danger” category, which would likely cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

Heat stroke is also possible with prolonged heat or sun exposure, it added.

Puerto Princesa has recorded a 42°C heat index for two consecutive days this week, based on the state weather bureau’s latest computed heat index bulletin.

The 42°C heat index was registered on Tuesday, March 18, and Wednesday, March 19.

Meanwhile, Pagasa noted that 54 other areas may experience a heat index of 33° to 41° on Wednesday, classified under the “extreme caution” category.
