Pagasa: Zero to 1 tropical cyclone forecast in April

MANILA, Philippines – From zero to one tropical cyclone is expected to hit the country this April, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spokesperson and Assistant Weather Services chief Ana Liza Solis said in a press conference on Friday.
“Eight to 14 na bagyo, possible po during the forecast period from April to September,” she said.
(Eight to 14 tropical cyclones are possible during the forecast period from April to September.)
In her presentation, she said that the country may expect the number of tropical cyclones in the following months:
- April 2025: zero to one
- May 2025: one to two
- June 2025: one to two
- July 2025: two to three
- August 2025: two to three
- September 2025: two to three
Solis previously said that a “below average” number of 16 to 19 typhoons are expected this year.
She explained that this is due to the La Niña alert, “but we are moving toward an ENSO [El Niño-Southern Oscillation] neutral condition.”

Rains due to ‘amihan’, shear line
Meanwhile, Pagasa weather specialist Joey Figuracion said in the same press conference that the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” continues to prevail in Luzon.
He added that it will bring rains in parts of the region, especially in the eastern section.
The shear line, or the convergence of warm and cold winds, will result in rains in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and northern part of Mindanao.
April forecast temperature
Solis also presented temperature ranges forecast for April. Northern Luzon and lowland Luzon will have the highest temperature forecast with 39.8°C and 39°C, respectively.
- Northern Luzon: 31.9°C to 39.8°C
- Lowland Luzon: 31.1°C to 39.3°C
- Mountainous Luzon: 26.3°C to 28.8°C
- Metro Manila: 35.4°C to 38.1°C
- Lowland Visayas: 31.9°C to 37°C
- Lowland Mindanao: 31.8°C to 38.3°C
- Mountainous Mindanao: 33.3°C to 35.6°C
