Pagasa: Zero to 1 tropical cyclone forecast in April

MANILA, Philippines 鈥 From zero to one tropical cyclone is expected to hit the country this April, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spokesperson and Assistant Weather Services chief Ana Liza Solis said in a press conference on Friday.

鈥淓ight to 14 na bagyo, possible po during the forecast period from April to September,鈥 she said.听

In her presentation, she said that the country may expect the number of tropical cyclones in the following months:

Solis previously said that a 鈥渂elow average鈥 number of 16 to 19 typhoons are expected this year.

She explained that this is due to the La Ni帽a alert, 鈥渂ut we are moving toward an ENSO [El Ni帽o-Southern Oscillation] neutral condition.鈥

Rains due to 鈥榓mihan鈥, shear line

Meanwhile, Pagasa weather specialist Joey Figuracion said in the same press conference that the northeast monsoon, or 鈥渁mihan,鈥 continues to prevail in Luzon.

He added that it will bring rains in parts of the region, especially in the eastern section.

The shear line, or the convergence of warm and cold winds, will result in rains in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and northern part of Mindanao.

April forecast temperature

Solis also presented temperature ranges forecast for April. Northern Luzon and lowland Luzon will have the highest temperature forecast with 39.8掳C and 39掳C, respectively.
