BFP: Mandaluyong fire kills 1, injures 4

An individual died, while four others sustained injuries in a fire that hit a residential area in Mandaluyong City on Monday morning, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

MANILA, Philippines – A three-year-old boy died, while seven others sustained injuries in a fire that hit a residential area in Mandaluyong City on Monday morning, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

In a report, fire authorities disclosed receiving information about an ongoing fire along JP Rizal Street in Barangay Namayan around 6 a.m.

The blaze reached the first alarm around 6:16 a.m. and escalated to the second alarm at 6:53 a.m.

It was placed under control at 8:18 a.m.

BFP did not name the person who died but identified only four of the seven injured individuals as Jandie Ramos Abaluna, 29; Enzo Agustin, 21; Grace Ann Javido, 54; and Regie Garce, 55.

In a separate report, the Eastern Police District (EPD) said the boy’s father, identified as Jandie Ramos Abaluna, was among the seven people who sustained injuries due to the fire.

Citing Abaluna’s account, police said the fire reportedly started on the second floor of an establishment along JP Rizal Street and later spread to a junkshop nearby.

Further details on the cause of the fire are yet to be released, but EPD said the estimated cost of damage has so far reached approximately P3 million. The fire affected nine families or 21 individuals.
