No tsunami threat in PH after magnitude 7 quake hit New Zealand

MANILA, Philippines — No alerts for a tsunami threat were raised in the country after a magnitude 7 earthquake hit New Zealand, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday.
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” said Phivolcs in an advisory.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake in New Zealand occurred at around 9:43 a.m.
It had a depth of only 10 kilometers.
The quake’s epicenter was located southeast off the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
