MANILA, Philippines — The planned rehabilitation of Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) is still being finalized, while consultations with concerned local government units are ongoing, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said on Thursday.
“We are confident that within the next week, we can have a final plan to present. We just need to get the inputs from our LGUs [local government units],” Dizon said in a mix of English and Filipino during a press conference at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headquarters in Pasig City following a Metro Manila Council meeting.
MMDA Chairperson Don Artes said they prepared five interventions to address traffic concerns arising from the planned rehabilitation, including an information campaign to notify motorists about alternate routes for the duration of the project.
“We’ve told the LGUs these alternate routes we’ll be identifying will be cleared and maintained, like what we did when we closed the Kamuning flyover,” Artes said.
Artes deferred, however, from further detailing the interventions.

“This is not the reblocking that our countrymen have become accustomed to on Edsa. No, this is not a reblocking project. This is a complete overhaul of the Edsa from Pasay all the way to Caloocan,” Dizon said.
Public Works Highways Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo said the project was slated to begin in April.
