Expanded Siargao Airport seating capacity eyed in 4 – 6 months
MANILA, Philippines — Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Thursday said he is pushing for the expanded seating capacity of the Siargao Airport in Surigao del Norte province within four to six months.
“Nagpapamadali ako ng modular expansion plan for Siargao Airport. Mayroon tayong ikno-knock down na wall doon. Magtatayo tayo ng kahit papano maganda-ganda namang air-conditioned area at ie-extend natin yung terminal,” Dizon said at a press conference following a meeting with the Metro Manila Council at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headquarters in Pasig City on Thursday.
(I’m having a modular expansion plan for Siargao Airport expedited. We will be knocking down a wall there. We’ll be constructing an air-conditioned area and extend the terminal.)
“Pinapataas ko ito (capacity) from 200 to about 700 seats. Kung modular lang yan, mabilis lang yan. Hopefully, in the next four to six months maximum, matatapos na yan para kahit papano may kaunting ginhawa,” he added.
(I’m having the capacity increased from 200 to about 700 seats. Since it’s modular, that’d be quick. Hopefully, in the next four to six months maximum, that’d be finished so that there’d be some relief.)
Apart from the expansion plan, Dizon also ordered the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to remove the VIP lounge to make more room for passengers.
“Kahit na kaunting area yun, at least, may madadagdag na ilang upuan para sa mga kababayan natin, para sa mga turista. Hindi na kailangan ng VIP lounge,” he explained.
(Even if it’s just a small area, at least, there’d be more seating for our countrymen and our tourists. A VIP lounge is no longer needed.)
