MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed another phase of its flood control project in Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila.
“The newly completed project costing P96.49 million is the fourth phase of a slope protection project which will serve as the first line of defense of the residents against river overflow and flooding,” said DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan in a statement on Friday.
The fourth phase was carried out from May 2024 to January 2025, costing P96.49 million, and extended the slope protection by 272.8 linear meters.
Aside from mitigating flooding, the DPWH said this initiative “aims to prevent soil erosion and improve water quality in the area.”
The agency revealed that its three completed phases of the slope protection project amount to P285.34 million. — Sheba Barr, intern
