Senators extend their well-wishes as Muslims celebrate Eid’l Fitr

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero hopes that the celebration of Eid’l Fitr will inspire all Filipinos to stay united despite political differences.

MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero hopes that the celebration of Eid al-Fitr will inspire all Filipinos to stay united despite political differences.

In a statement on Monday, Escudero extended his message to the Filipino-Muslim community, saying he is one with them in observing Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important days in Islam, marking the end of Ramadan.

“Ang Eid al-Fitr ay isang panahon ng pasasalamat, pagkakaisa, at pagbabahagi ng biyaya sa kapwa,” said Escudero.

(Eid’l Fitr is a time of thanksgiving, unity, and gift-giving to fellow beings.)

“Kasabay ng pasasalamat, dalangin ko na ang araw na ito ay magbigay-daan para sa pagkakaisa at kapayapaan ng ating bansa. Sa kabila ng pagkakawatak-watak sanhi ng mga kaganapang pampulitika, nananatili ang ating pag-asa na ang Eid al-Fitr ay magsisilbing inspirasyon para sa pagkakasundo at pagkakaunawaan ng bawat Pilipino,” he added.

(Along with thanksgiving, I pray that this day will pave the way for unity and peace in the country. Despite the division caused by politics, I remain hopeful that Eid al-Fitr will inspire unity and understanding among Filipinos.)

According to the Senate chief, sacrifices made during Ramadan remind all Filipinos of the importance of endurance, concern, and love for fellow beings.

“Ipagpatuloy natin ang diwa ng Eid al-Fitr sa ating pang-araw-araw na buhay. Bilang isang bayan, tayo ay magkaisa para sa isang mas maayos na kinabukasan,” he emphasized.

(Let us continue the essence of Eid al-Fitr in our daily lives. As a nation, let us be united for a better future.)

In a separate statement also issued Monday, Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Risa Hontiveros likewise extended her message to the Filipino-Muslim community, commending their devotion during Ramadan.

“Tanggapin sana ng Allah ang lahat ng inyong sakripisyo at pagkakawanggawa. Nawa’y maghatid din ito sa atin ng malusog pangangatawan,  pagkakaisa, pagmamahalan, at kapayapaan. Dinggin po sana ng Allah ang ating mga panalangin at hiling at patuloy na biyayaan ang ating tahanan,” she said.
