LEGAZPI CITY — A police officer was shot and killed Tuesday morning by his fellow policeman inside a camp in Sipocot town in Camarines Sur.

Brigadier General Andre Perez Dizon, Bicol police chief, identified the victim as Patrolman Rodel Abelido, 31, assigned at the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (SAF) Compound in Barangay Tara in the said town.

Dizon said initial investigation showed that the suspect, Patrolman Jhonel Idos, 31, was inside the toilet when he had an altercation with Abelido who entered the area to wash clothes at around 7:30 a.m.

“When Abelido got mad after he was told to do laundry outside, he punched the suspect. This prompted Idos to shoot him using his service firearm,” Dizon said in a phone interview.

He said Abelido suffered a wound in the head. He died on the way to a hospital.

The suspect is now in the custody of Sipocot police.

A follow-up investigation has been launched.
