Barangay chair shot dead in Pangasinan
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The incumbent village chair of Barangay Paitan in Sta. Maria town in this province was shot and killed early Tuesday by an unidentified gunman.
The police said Rolando Fernandez Albino, 60, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead.
Initial investigations revealed that Albino was driving a barangay patrol tricycle along the bypass road in Sta. Maria when the suspect, who had been waiting by the roadside, called out to him around 8:30 a.m.
As Albino stopped, the suspect opened fire multiple times using a .45 caliber pistol before fleeing on a gray Honda Click 125 motorcycle.
Authorities recovered six spent .45 caliber shell casings at the crime scene.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket, black helmet, pants, and white shoes.
The Sta. Maria police, in coordination with neighboring towns, have launched a dragnet operation and set up checkpoints to track down the assailant. INQ
