Grass fire engulfs a wide area of Taal Volcano Island – Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines — A grass fire broke out on Taal Volcano Island on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to Phivolcs, the grassfire was observed affecting the Binintiang Munti (VTBM) Observation Station in the southwest portion of Taal Volcano Island and the incident was first recorded at 11:24 a.m.
Phivolcs said that as of 8:02 p.m., the fire was still ongoing.

“VTBM has been affected by similar grass fires before, such as on 03 March 2023 and 02 May 2024, that were started by kindling,” Phivolcs said in an advisory.
Meanwhile, the agency assured the public that it is monitoring the situation and it is in close coordination with the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils of Batangas province.
On the other hand, Alert Level 1 continues to prevail over Taal Volcano.
