5 nabbed in Manila for alleged illegal gambling, gun ban violation

MANILA, Philippines — Five individuals were arrested in Manila for alleged illegal gambling and violating the election period gun ban, according to the city police’s reports on Wednesday.
A report from the Moriones Tondo Police Station said two were arrested along Chacon Street in Barangay 7, Tondo on Monday evening after police officers supposedly spotted them playing cara y cruz.
Upon being frisked, authorities discovered a caliber .38 revolver and two pieces of live ammunition from one of the suspects.
The police identified the arrested individuals as technician Nico Garcia and vendor Pacifico De Jesus.
Meanwhile, a report from the Ermita Police Station said three individuals were arrested at the corner of San Andres and Singalong Streets in Paco, Manila also on Monday night, when they were likewise caught playing cara y cruz.
One of the suspects was caught with a “pen gun,” an improvised firearm; and a piece of 9mm live ammunition.
Ermita police identified the suspects as Gladpoal Dulay, 26; Ryan Capambe, 34; and Rey Maravilla, 62.
All five suspects face complaints before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for violating the anti-illegal gambling provisions in Presidential Decree No. 1602 as well as the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.

The gun ban had been in place since January 12, the start of the election period for the 2025 midterm polls.
On Wednesday, the Philippine National Police reported that there were now 2,105 individuals caught skirting the firearms ban.
Of the violators so far, Metro Manila had 693.
