MANILA, Philippines — Parts of the country will experience cloudy skies and rains on Friday due to three weather systems, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said that three prevailing weather systems are northeasterly wind flow in northern Luzon, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) in Mindanao, and easterlies in the rest of the country.
“Dahil sa northeast windflow, asahan pa rin ang medyo makulimlim na panahon at mahihinang pag-ulan sa may Batanes, Babuyan Islands, at sa may eastern section po ng Cagayan at Isabela,” Estareja said in a 5 a.m. weather forecast.
(Because of the northeast windflow, expect overcast skies and light rains in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and in the eastern section of Cagayan and Isabela.)
He added that cloudy skies with chances of isolated rains are expected over the rest of Northern Luzon, especially in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Meanwhile, he reported that Central and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of rain.
“May tyansa na ng pag-ulan as early as morning hanggang sa hapon dito po sa southern portion ng Bicol, kabilang na ang Catanduanes, Albay, at Sorsogon,” he said.
(There are chances of rain as early as morning until afternoon in the southern part of Bicol, including Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon.)
The easterlies will also result in rains in huge portions of Palawan and Visayas, especially in Samar provinces, Biliran, and some parts of Leyte. The rest of Visayas will experience fair weather conditions with chances of overcast skies and isolated rains.
Lastly, the ITCZ will bring rain to the southern portion of Mindanao.
“Kabilang na dyan ang Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, gayundin sa Soccsksargen [South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City], Davao region at Surigao del Sur. Ang natitirang bahagi ng Mindanao, mataas ang tyansa ng pag-ulan, dito sa natitirang bahagi ng Caraga region, rest of Bangsamoro region, at ilang bahagi ng Northern Mindanao,” he noted.
(It includes Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Soccsksargen, Davao region, and Surigao del Sur; the rest of Mindanao will see high chances of rains, in the rest of the Caraga region, Bangsamoro region, and other parts of Northern Mindanao.)
While no gale warning is raised over the coastal areas of the country, Estareja warned of moderate to rough sea conditions in the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the northeasterly wind flow.
No low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is being monitored inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
