MANILA, Philippines — The stabbing of two more Grade 8 students in Las Piñas by three other minors outside of their school is “beyond alarming” and “a clear sign of crisis,” according to Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
Gatchalian, who heads the Senate panel on basic education, issued the statement on Sunday following cases of student stabbing in Las Piñas and Parañaque.

“This is beyond alarming—it is a clear sign of a crisis. Two more Grade 8 students in Las Piñas were stabbed to death by three fellow learners outside their school,” the senator said.
“When violence becomes the language of our youth, we must confront the hard truth: we are failing in our duty to raise a generation grounded in discipline and respect. Kung ganito na ang mga kabataan, dapat tayong mangamba sa kinabukasang hinuhubog natin,” he added.
(If the youth are already like this, we should be worried about the future we’re shaping.)
He likewise emphasized the need to bring the perpetrators to justice, adding that local government units should be “mobilized now to implement the Parent Effectiveness Service Program.”
“We cannot wait for more student deaths before we implement the interventions available to us, including the GMRC (Good Manners and Right Conduct) and Values Education Act,” Gatchalian also said.
Last Friday, two Grade 8 students died after they were stabbed by three Grade 9 students outside their school in Las Piñas.

Upon exiting their school, the two victims were reportedly approached by the three children in-conflict with the law (CICL), who are all Grade 9 students. Police said the three Grade 9 students suddenly stabbed the Grade 8 students — one on the left lateral neck and the other on his right chest.
On the other hand, a Grade 8 student was fatally stabbed by his classmate with a kitchen knife after an argument in a high school in Parañaque last March 26.
