Milo Little Olympics Visayas delegation head and regional finals organizer Ricky Ballesteros believes competition in this year’s 17th Milo Little Olympics-Visayas Regional Finals will be tighter than before.

Ballesteros said 16-time defending champion University of Cebu (UC) will still be the team to beat but other schools will be giving their all to try to unseat the Webmasters.

Abellana National School (ANS) and the University of San Carlos (USC) will be among the top contenders for the crown since according to Ballesteros, these two have improved their respective sports programs this year.

“We expect a tightly contested competition this year,” said Ballesteros. “As what I’ve heard from ANS and USC, they are now focusing more on improving their performances for this year’s competition.”

This year’s multi-sporting event will be held Aug. 24 to Sept. 2 at the newly renovated Cebu City Sports Center.

USC is expected to bank more on the improvement of their sepak takraw team, gymnatics team and track and field squad.

Another school expected to compe well this year will be the Southwestern University (SWU).

Ballesteros said SWU athletics director Ryan Aznar was dead serious on improving the school’s sports program. SWU is a top contender in the volleyball.
With schools working hard to improve their athletes, Ballesteros also expects the best of the best to emerge after the regional games. This means that the winners will form a stronger Team Visayas for the Nationals on October in Manila.

“Hopefully we can complete a four-peat. But we have to do our best because this is already NCR hosting us and we know how tough are they.”
