Kidding aside, a resolution passed by the House of Representatives urges the Department of Education to post signs reading 鈥淗onesty is the Best Policy鈥 in all elementary and high school classrooms in the country.

Teaching honesty as a way of life among students can be聽 more effective if it is included as a聽 subject in all grades than posting聽聽 signs in聽 strategic places on聽 the school campus.

A subject on good manners and right conduct is more important than聽 regular subjects, like math and political science, especially when taught in the child鈥檚 formative years.

Vice President Jojo Binay complains that broadcaster Korina Sanchez was referring to him when she said on radio that 鈥渄ark and small malignant spirits鈥 wanted to take over the post of interior secretary.

No, Binay is not a small and malignant spirit since he鈥檚 not an elemental.

Elementals are unseen beings that supposedly inhabit balete trees and mounds.

Binay is just plain dark聽 (nognog), but dark is a neutral word since 鈥渢all, dark and handsome鈥 are the qualities most women look for in a man.

So why should Binay feel alluded to when he鈥檚 neither an elemental nor ugly?

Binay should expect more brickbats to come his way with the coming聽 2016 presidential election.

He has announced his intention to run for president, and so he has聽 become聽 fair game.

If he has a dark past, he should think twice before running for president.

But he has none. Or has he?

It was providential that hours before he was to take over the post of director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina鈥檚 son became a victim of two rogue Metro Manila cops.

Two Quezon City policemen aboard a patrol car allegedly tried to extort P20,000 from the young Espina.

Now General Espina knows that his No. 1 problem is not the metropolis鈥 high crime rate, but criminal cops.

If the new NCRPO chief is able to get rid of cops who commit crimes, the crime rate will go down considerably.
