‘Hardcore’ Abu Sayyaf member nabbed in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—A suspected Abu Sayyaf member involved in the 2001 Lamitan siege was captured Saturday morning in Barangay Libug in Sumisip, Basilan, the military said.

Colonel Alexander Macario, Task Force Basilan commander, identified the suspect as Kanneh Malikilivo.

He said Malikilivo, a “hardcore” Abu Sayyaf was arrested on the strength of a warrant issued by Judge Danilo Bucoy of the Regional Trial Court  for his reported involvement in the June 2, 2001 mass hostage taking at the Don Jose Torres Memorial Hospital in Lamitan.

The suspect, who yielded a .45-caliber pistol, did not resist arrest, Macario said.

“The suspect is set to be turned over to the police,” he said.
