A dog believed to be a victim of abuse underwent facial surgery to repair its disfigured face.

It took an eight-man team of veterinary surgeons four hours to attach the dog’s nose, hard palette and skin.

The Aspin (Asong Pinoy) they named Kenneth was found by a traysikad driver in Talisay City more than two weeks ago.

He was seen wandering around the streets looking for food with half of his face already hanging and almost touching the ground.

Dr. Ivy Alvarez of Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital said when they got hold of Kenneth, the dog was sweet and despite his condition exhibited a healthy eating behavior.

“I almost cried when I first saw him. I really pity the dog. But despite what happened to him, he was really sweet,” says Alvarez.

One of the surgeons that operated on Kenneth said it was not hard for them to put his face back since the tissues were still alive, which means, blood still flows in the area.

“It will take less than two weeks for Kenneth to recover. We assure that nothing significant will change the dog’s life. He will eat normally and live normally,” says Dr. Luis Guillermo Zialcita.

Cebu South Dog Club Inc. (CSDCI) and Island Rescue Organization said someone should be held accountable for what happened to Kenneth.

Gilliam Roque of CSDCI said that Kenneth might be a victim of abuse.

“Kenneth is an example of a victim of people who don’t know anything about a law against animal cruelty or the Animal Welfare Act. A person can be in prison for at least two years for it,” Roque said.

Once Kenneth will fully recover, he will be taken to an animal shelter in Danao City. Kenneth got his name from the Visayan word, “Kinit-an” or found. His foster parent, the traysikad driver named him that.
