Girl injured by tricycle inside Manila cemetery

MANILA, Philippines—Despite a ban on vehicles entering the Manila North Cemetery, a nine-year-old girl was hit Friday morning by a tricycle near the cemetery’s memorial circle.
“I saw a card lying on the road and I picked it up. I didn’t realize that I had gone beyond the sidewalk and actually stepped on the road,” Sophia Ysabel Ancheta of Payatas, Quezon City, told the Inquirer.
Her aunt rushed her to the command post for treatment.
Bureau of Fire Protection Inspector Levi Cerillo, chief of the emergency medical service, said Ancheta’s left foot was run over. The BFP staff bandaged the foot. Cerillo said an X-ray had to be taken to determine if any bones were broken.
Policemen and Ancheta’s father went looking for the tricycle driver.

Article continues after this advertisementManila Police District Station 3 commander Superintendent Ricardo Layug said the tricycles were probably already inside the cemetery when the ban on entry of vehicles came into effect.
“But once they go out, they won’t be able to come in again,” he said.
