/ 10:48 AM January 30, 2013

OZAMIZ CITY — Sustained rains beginning early morning Wednesday caused floods in Ozamiz City, prompting the local government to suspend classes.

As of 9 a.m., the entire urban section and outlying suburban villages were submerged in water as much as knee-deep. No fatalities had been reported so far.

Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez called off classes for private and public elementary and secondary schools as concerns were raised about the safety of school children amid the deluge.

According to the 24-hour public weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued 5am Wednesday, the eastern and central sections of the Visayas and Mindanao are to experience light to moderate rains resulting from the tail-end of a cold front.
