3 dead in motorbike accident; 4 hurt as truck hits house

Three people were killed after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a taxi in Pasig City.

The police said the three victims identified as Rey Mark Pontay, the driver of the motorcycle with plate number 6054 OD, and his passengers Daryl Ramirez and Aldrin Visbal, were on their way home from a night out when they met an accident on the southbound lane of C-5 Road shortly after midnight Monday.

Pontay and Ramirez, according to SPO2 Carlito Guillarte of the city鈥檚 traffic division, died on the spot. Visbal died at the nearby Rizal Medical Center.

Guillarte said the victims were traveling on the northbound lane of C-5 when Pontay lost control of the motorcycle which crossed the center island and on to the opposite lane where it hit a taxi cab with Michael Epal behind the wheel.

The impact sent the motorcycle riders tumbling onto the street while the taxi cab suffered heavy damage.

Guillarte said the victims did not appear to be wearing helmets.

According to Visbal鈥檚 sister Elena, her younger brother was set to leave for work abroad within the month.

Guillarte said that charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property in connection with the damaged vehicles would be filed against Epal who was detained at the Pasig police headquarters.

Meanwhile, a truck driver, his two helpers and a 10-year-old boy had to be rushed to the hospital after they were injured when a delivery truck slammed into a house in Malabon City at 10:10 a.m. Monday.

PO2 Joshua Fernandez identified the driver of the truck as Rodel Delema, 42.
