Aquino confers posthumous award on Fe del Mundo

MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III conferred the Order of the Golden Heart with the rank of Grand Collar posthumously on National Scientist Fe del Mundo on Thursday.
In his message at necrological rites at the Department of Science and Technology, Aquino lauded Del Mundo for returning to the Philippines to serve despite her achievements.
“I hope that with Dr. Fe Del Mundo’s passing, there would be 1,000 more Fe Del Mundo,” the President said.
Del Mundo, a pediatrician, became a national scientist in 1980. She was a distinguished scholar, humanitarian and a leader in putting up various pediatric institutions in the country.
She died on August 6 at the age of 99.
