Tree exhibit, finding of Sto. Ni帽o icon to highlight Gabii sa Kabilin

THE Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) GREENIN Philippines program will hold an exhibit of native tree species at the Casa Gorordo Museum during the 7th Gabii sa Kabilin on May 31.

The exhibit aims to promote the propagation of local tree species.

A trivia game with questions revolving around the materials found in the exhibit and the museum will be conducted. Native tree seedlings will be given away as prizes.

The Generation REdemption, and Expansion of Natural resources INitiatives in the Philippines (GREENIN) program utilizes native tree species in restoring and rehabilitating degraded forests.

This year鈥檚 Gabii sa Kabilin, scheduled from聽 6 p.m. to midnight, will feature 33 destinations in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Lapu-Lapu.

Meanwhile, SM City Cebu has extended the Kaplag exhibit at the Art Center until May 31 to welcome the participants of Gabii sa Kabilin.

The theme of the exhibit is 鈥淜aplag 鈥 Expressing the face of Jesus in art in the year of faith 2013 with a mission to foster devotion to the Sto. Ni帽o.鈥

The paintings of the Holy Child in mixed media depict the magnificent harmony of aesthetic and faith.

The exhibit showcases the works of Fr. Dominador Misares. The exhibit of 27 art works featuring the Santo Ni帽o de Cebu in various Cebu churches鈥 architectural details is the culminating activity that the Augustinian Fathers of the Basilica del Sto. Nino put up to mark the 448th Kaplag celebration.

Kaplag, a Cebuano term for 鈥渇ind,鈥 refers to the finding of the image of the child Jesus by Juan Camus, a soldier of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, in a burnt hut where the basilica stands today.

Kaplag exhibit is open until 9 p.m.
