Pangasinan town councilor survives ambush

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan鈥擜 councilor in Binalonan, Pangasinan, survived a gun attack by two men on a motorcycle on Friday morning, police said.

Councilor Oscar Evangelista, 68, was driving his Volkswagen Beetle on the national highway at about 8:30 a.m. when the motorcycle drove by, and one of the riders fired at him.

Chief Insp. Benjamin Ariola, Binalonan police chief, said Evangelista was wounded on the right thigh and was treated at the town鈥檚 rural health unit.

Ariola said the assailants, who rode a black motorcycle without plates, sped off in the direction of Urdaneta City.

Investigators found four bullet shells and a deformed slug at the crime scene.

Evangelista ran for re-election as an independent candidate in the May 13 elections but lost.
