MANILA, Philippines – “Ang marriage nga hindi nagtatagal, coalition pa (A marriage does not last, what more a coalition)?”

This was how outgoing Senator  Manny Villar, president of the Nacionalista Party,  reacted on Tuesday when asked  to comment on some  observations that  NP’s coalition with President Benigno Aquino’s Liberal Party would not last.

Villar and Aquino ran against each other for president in 2010 but they joined forces, along with other groups, during last May’s elections.

“Talaga naman  ganun yan. Lahat naman ng coalition  may nagsasabing hindi magtatagal. Hindi natin masasabi yan… (I guess it’s really like that. Critics always claim coalitions won’t last. But we can’t say for certain)?”  he told a regular forum in the Senate.

At present though, Villar said he has no plans of returning to politics after  his second term in the Senate formally ends on June 30, 2013.

He said he has been enjoying his return to real estate business and to their Villar Foundation, which he said was less stressful.

“My BP (blood pressure) is down, cholesterol is down. So happy ako (I’m happy),” Villar said.

After losing to Aquino, Villar realized that the presidency is a “destiny.”
