鈥楬uaning鈥� gains strength
MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon “Huaning” (international name Soulik) gained strength as it continued to move northwest in the northernmost province of Batanes Thursday, the state weather bureau said.
“Huaning” packed maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 220 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.
As of 10 a.m, the typhoon was observed 810 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It was moving west-northwest at 20 kph.
Signal No 1 remained hoisted over the Batanes Group of Islands.
“Huaning” was forecast to be 80 km northwest of Northern Taiwan or outside the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday morning.
