Aquino appoints new Sandigan presiding justice

MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III has appointed Associate Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang as presiding Justice of the Sandiganbayan, the country’s antigraft court.
The President signed Tang’s appointment and Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. transmitted this to Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno on Oct. 1.
Prior to her appointment Tang was associate justice at Sandiganbayan.
She was previously employed at the Office of the Solicitor General, rising from solicitor-1 in 1984 to assistant solicitor general from 1994 to 2012, when she was appointed to the Sandiganbayan as associate justice.
She was a trial attorney from 1982 to 1984, and legal assistant in the Supreme Court from 1980 to 1982.
Article continues after this advertisementTang has taught Criminal Law at the University of Santo Tomas since 2010, and at the San Beda College since 2006.
She graduated in the top 10 of her class at the San Beda College of Law in 1979. She took the bar the same year and passed with a rating of 84.95 percent.
