Zamboanga airport resumes operations, says aviation board

MANILA, Philippines – Zamboanga airport resumed its commercial operations Thursday but on a “limited basis,” the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) official said.

CAAP Deputy Director General John Andrews said commercial flights may take off and land in Zamboanga International Airport “only from sunrise to sunset” until October 24, Radyo Inquirer 990 AM quoted Andrews as saying.

Andrews said the airport would only accommodate flights from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Lifting the Notice to Airmen (Notam) that was issued Wednesday, Andrews said Zamboanga airport operations went back to normal at 7 a.m. today.

The Notam on the suspension of commercial operations at the airport was released by CAAP, which cancelled at least 12 Zamboanga flights due to bad weather.

The airport runway, particularly runway 9/27, was flooded after incessant rains battered the city.

The report said rehabilitation was expected to finish on October 24 as repairs were ongoing.
