MANILA, Philippines — Burglars broke into the Quezon City house of a broadcast journalist and managed to cart away nearly P60,000 in jewelry on Sunday night.

Marcelino Ocampo, 54, a mediaman affiliated with the DZME radio station, arrived at his house in Novaliches late that night only to find his front door knob missing.

Senior Police Officer 1 Arman Melad, the case investigator from the Novaliches police station, said the break-in might have happened between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Sunday while the victim and his wife were out.

FEATURED STORIES

The burglars struck at Ocampo’s house in Goodwill 1 Subdivision in Barangay (village) San Bartolome, Novaliches and made off with P59,500 in jewelry: a Seiko watch, four gold necklaces, three silver bracelets, 12 silver and gold rings, and an anklet.

The Ocampos were out that Sunday and left their house locked, coming home at around 11 pm.

Melad theorized that the robbers took advantage of the family’s absence and deftly detached the front door knob.

The burglars then ransacked the master bedroom of its valuables, fleeing before the victims came home.

This was the second time this month that a mediaman’s house was burglarized. Last week, broadcast journalist Eduardo “Ed” Verzola also reported a break-in at his house in Barangay Tandang Sora. He reported losing more than P300,000 in valuables.
