2 NPAs slain in failed bid to ambush relief convoy for Yolanda victims

MANILA, Philippines – Two ranking New People’s Army leaders were killed in an encounter with soldiers early Tuesday in Sorsogon as rebels allegedly tried to ambush a government convoy transporting relief supplies for victims of typhoon “Yolanda.”

The slain NPA leaders were identified only as “Ka Abel” and “Gapa,” said Colonel Jose Kakilala, commander of Army’s 903rd Brigade.

The troops were securing a government relief convoy bound for Leyte and Samar in Balocawe village in Matnog town when it battled with about 15 communist rebels past 5.a.m.

Also confiscated were three M16 rifles, one baby Armalite, one M14, 1 cal .45 and several improvised explosive devices.
