Majority of Filipinos still support Aquino, says Palace

MANILA, Philippines – Despite a drop in the approval rating of President Benigno Aquino III, Malacañang on Monday said what matters is that a majority of Filipinos continue to support him.

“In the aftermath of a series of calamities and the tremendous challenges arising from these, the President continues to enjoy the support of about 3 out of every 4 Filipinos, based on the approval and trust ratings recorded by Pulse Asia in its December 2013 public opinion survey,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said in a text message to media.

He said Aquino and the members of his Cabinet are “determined to vigorously implement” programs under the Philippine Development Plan this year “with a renewed sense of urgency and determination.

“We call on our people to join government’s reconstruction efforts and, in the spirit of bayanihan, build back better and disaster-resilient communities,” he said.

Coloma asked the public to give feedback and suggestions on how the government could deliver its services more effectively.

The latest Pulse Asia survey showed that Aquino’s approval rating dipped by six percentage points from 79 percent in September to 73 percent last month.

His trust rating also went down to 74 percent in December from 76 percent.
