Number coding lifted on April 17-18

MANILA, Philippines – Expect heavy traffic during the Holy Week exodus when the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) lifts its number coding scheme on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

“PAALAALA: Walang number coding sa buong Metro Manila sa Huwebes, April 17, 2014 (Maundy Thursday) at Biyernes, April 18, 2014 (Good Friday),” the MMDA said over Twitter on Monday.

(REMINDER: No number coding in Metro Manila on Thursday, April 17, 2014 (Maundy Thursday) and Friday, April 18, 2014 (Good Friday).)

The MMDA also released its schedule of concrete reblocking along Edsa from Tuesday to Friday this week.

Metro Manila’s major roads are often clogged on days leading to and after Holy Week because of the mad dash of motorists and commuters going to and from the provinces.

The South Luzon Expressway is expected to host  at least 295,000 vehicles on those days, compared to 240,000 on a regular day.
